Martin Luther King Day 2018

Check out the coverage we received from Wavy TV for our Day of Service

Charles Cheek summed it up best:

“What are you doing for others?” Or better yet What DID YOU do for OTHERS today? …MLK, Jr. Day 2018. We were involved in 3 projects in Southeast Newport News…Marshall Early Childhood Learning Center, Operation Breaking Through and Community Surveys in the neighborhoods. Great seeing the young people from the Catalyst Effect, NN Office of Human Affairs Youth Services Director, NN Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, Office of the Virginia Attorney General, The Mission Continues (Empowering Veterans To Serve Their Country In New Ways), Peninsula Baptist Association, Parkview Baptist Church, New Life Church Hampton Inc., Mt. Calvary Baptist Church (prepared 150 lunches), Altmeyer Funeral Homes (always giving back to the community), First Baptist Church (Warwick Blvd.,NN) and a host of others.

Thank you Pastor Tremayne Johnson for opening the doors of Zion Baptist Church to receive us. The Community Surveys received a great response in the neighborhoods and Zion Baptist will host the first neighborhood Dialogue on Racism, Poverty and Violence that mirrors the Pastor’s Dialogue on Racism, Poverty and Violence.

Once again, Charles has done a great job of networking, organizing, and executing a plan to bless our communities. And once again, my only regret is that more people didn’t come out to serve the community. Those who did come out were able to experience what it is like to be part of a growing movement for God’s Kingdom in our area. This movement moves out beyond the walls of our churches and touches lives with the gospel in real, tangible ways.
